Officer Aaron Slack, a New Brighton resident and an eight year veteran of the New Brighton Public Safety Department, spoke to the club about his many roles with the Department, including Police Officer, Firefighter, Field Training Officer, Police Explorer Program Advisor and School Resource Officer.  The primary focus of his presentation was his role as a School Resource Officer.  Officer Slack splits his time between New Brighton's two elementary schools (Sunnyside and Bel-Air), the Early Childhood Education Center, and the Alternative Learning Center.  Although enforcement is a part of the job, Officer Slack concentrates on student protection, establishing relationships and promoting the idea that police officers are friends that can be trusted.  Public Safety Director Bob Jacobson and Deputy Public Safety Director Dan Olson were present and both commented on the effectiveness of the School Resource Officer program and Officer Slack's role in the program.
